Charlie Hunnam’s Sons of Anarchy Meets Money Heist as Series Adapts Award-Winning Comics

Hunnam Takes On Criminal
Hunnam, known for playing Jax Teller in Sons of Anarchy, is set to star in Criminal before returning for the Sons of Anarchy spin-off Legends. The new Prime Video drama is based on a comic series of the same name.
In Criminal, Hunnam plays a clever, cautious thief who avoids violence during heists. The series follows characters within and around a criminal underworld, with story arcs that sometimes intersect.
Comic Creator Leads Adaptation
Ed Brubaker wrote the Criminal comics, which were illustrated by Sean Phillips. He is co-showrunner of the television adaptation alongside novelist Jordan Harper. The first season will draw on two major comic arcs. Coward centers on a heist gone wrong, while Lawless follows a man trying to save his brother and features Luke Evans and Emilia Clarke as leads.
Teaser Hints At Crime Drama
The first look at Criminal is available, though it may be too early to judge the series. Its robbery scenes recall heist thrillers such as Money Heist, while the trailer’s hints of violence and betrayal evoke Sons of Anarchy.
The cast also includes Adria Arjona, Michael Mando, Richard Jenkins and John Hawkes. The series was greenlit by Amazon in 2024, and the comics provide material for at least three full seasons.
