Trump Names Stephen Miller Chief of Staff, Signaling a ‘Crack Skulls’ Approach

Miller Takes Over the Role

Trump announced that Wiles is stepping down and that Miller, the current deputy chief of staff, will replace her. Wiles was the first woman to serve in the position and Trump’s longest-tenured chief of staff.

Trump praised Miller as politically capable and a strong manager, saying he had been with him from the beginning. He also said Wiles had done a very good job but that he wanted to make a change.

Immigration Becomes a Liability

The appointment follows a midterm defeat described as crushing. Immigration, previously a political strength for Trump, had become a liability after two years of mass detentions and deportations, as well as armed agents in American cities.

Trump pledged to work with the incoming Democratic Congress. Miller’s move into the chief of staff role, however, signals that Trump intends to continue pushing his agenda. Miller has called Democrats a “domestic extremist organization,” according to the report.

Other Political Pressures

The report also turned to Iran, where Oversight Chairman James Comer said Republican voters were more upset about the situation than Democratic voters. Comer raised questions about Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and said the strategy for Iran was unclear.

Voters in Mississippi described frustration with politicians and a system they said was failing to deliver. One voter said people were tired of politicians enriching themselves while others suffered.
