Porthcawl’s personal landmarks draw Quentin Tarantino and Kylie Minogue to film Adams’s movie

A hometown filming experience
Tarantino and Minogue’s visit to Porthcawl stirred excitement in the seaside town. For Adams, having the filmmaker’s heroes work in his hometown felt like “an out of body experience.” Adams included settings that mattered to him, among them the pub his father once ran. He recalled Tarantino sharing a drink there and chatting with Neil, a friend he had known since childhood.
A story made spontaneously
Tangled Up in Blue centres on a talent manager, played by Tarantino, who has spent 40 years managing legends. He becomes stranded at a hotel bar between an old flame and a lost soul.
Adams filmed the movie in a week, using improvisation to create much of it spontaneously rather than following a pre-written script. He said he wanted to make a more personal project and shoot it in his hometown.
Welsh roots and release plans
Minogue’s family has links to the area: her mother, Carol Jones, and Welsh-speaking grandmother, Millie Jones, emigrated from Maesteg to Australia in the 1950s. Maesteg is also in Bridgend county.
Most filming took place in Cardiff and Porthcawl. Adams said the project brought people together, and he expects the town to keep talking about the movie; he is aiming for a summer 2027 release, though no date has been set.
