Perplexity launches a new take on AI agents designed for work

Agents for ongoing work

Perplexity’s Teammates are designed to take on multiple roles within a workspace and remain active around the clock. They can use projects, skills and memory from other Perplexity tools.

The company says Teammates extend Perplexity Computer, which can deploy agents on a user’s device to carry out tasks. Teammates add collaboration and support for larger, continuing projects, according to Perplexity.

Multiple tasks and monitoring

Users can assign different jobs to individual Teammates, which can work on tasks at the same time. The approach resembles OpenAI’s Dots and Anthropic’s Claude Duet. Progress is available through separate threads in the Perplexity app. Users can also interact with Teammates in Slack.

A $200 monthly requirement

Teammates require Perplexity’s Max subscription, priced at $200 per month. That makes the service more expensive than the comparable features mentioned from OpenAI and Anthropic. Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas wrote on X that the company envisions organizations eventually having hundreds of AI teammates working for each person.

Key points

  • Perplexity’s always-on Teammates can handle multiple workspace roles and tasks.
  • The agents build on Perplexity Computer and support ongoing collaborative work.
  • Users can track progress in the Perplexity app or interact through Slack.
  • Teammates require the $200-per-month Max plan.
