25 Major Easter Eggs, Comics References and MCU Ties in VisionQuest Episode 7

A 1939 Marvel Connection
The episode opens with flashbacks to 1939, showing the origins of JIM. That year also marked the publication of Marvel Comics #1 by Timely Comics, which introduced Jim Hammond’s Synthetic Man, later known as the Human Torch, and Namor the Sub-Mariner.
A recording of “Just Like A Dream” by the Morrie Morrison Orchestra plays in the background; the song was first released in the 1930s. The flashback also gives Doctor Phineas T. Horton his MCU debut, played by Vision actor Paul Bettany.
Grieving the loss of his son, Horton creates JIM as a replacement. The episode reveals that Horton still had another child, Victoria, but became consumed with rebuilding Jim. He sold the family home, and his wife and daughter left him.
Horton’s Family And Comics
Horton created the Human Torch in the comics, and the character appeared in the original VisionQuest comic run. The comics also gave Horton an unnamed daughter, while his granddaughter was named Victoria. The episode’s reveal of Horton’s daughter as Victoria therefore links the character’s family history to the comics, though the relationships differ.
Jocasta’s Identity And Memories
Jocasta’s standing as the “Mother of AI” is reinforced by praise from Ultron, voiced by James Spader. In the previous episode, Ultron gave Jo Carrington her comics-accurate name after she compared him to a Greek god. To open her nest, Jocasta uses a personal bio-key based on Edgar Allan Poe’s poem “The Raven,” continuing her bird-related interests from earlier episodes. The Client tells Vision and Jocasta that their missing memories and feelings are “merely being kept from you.”
Oz, The Client And The Spear
The Client is described as the “Man Behind the Curtain” and the Great and Powerful Oz, invoking the Wizard of Oz character who concealed his identity and influence. The Client also repeatedly calls Vision a Tin Man without a heart, reflecting Vision’s struggle to feel human.
Vision needs substantial power to access his source code, so he and Thomas return to Paladin. Paladin offers the cosmic spear once wielded by Corvus Glaive, a member of the Black Order sent by Thanos to retrieve the Mind Stone from Vision.
In Avengers: Infinity War, Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight pursued the Mind Stone. Vision was pierced by Corvus’s spear in Glasgow and again during the Battle of Wakanda.
