Netflix Officially Scores New Series Based on 20-Year-Old Classic

A long-awaited adaptation

PREP follows Lee Fiora through her high school years at Ault, a fictional, elite New England prep school. As a scholarship student among privileged classmates, she navigates friendship, crushes and class.

The novel was Sittenfeld’s debut and was named among The New York Times’ top five works of fiction for 2005. Entertainment Weekly called it a “cult-classic” in 2018.

Taylor leads the series

Nicole Taylor, known for One Day and Three Girls, will adapt the book as a series. She described PREP as her all-time favorite novel and said she had wanted to adapt it since first reading it twenty years ago. Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor will serve as executive producers alongside Sittenfeld.

Sittenfeld welcomes Netflix project

Sittenfeld said she was overjoyed that Netflix was making PREP as a television show. She described the 22-year wait as worthwhile and pointed to the platform’s reach.
