Emergency landing in France after bomb threat diverts Rome-bound Aer Lingus passenger plane

Emergency landing in France

The flight was carrying more than 150 people when the threat prompted it to divert from its route to Rome. Aer Lingus said flight EI402, which had departed Dublin, landed safely in Normandy as a security precaution.

Flight path and response

FlightRadar24 data showed the Airbus 320 cruising at 37,000 feet west of Paris just over an hour after takeoff. It then descended, traced several loops and landed at the French air base.

Threats reported across Europe

The diversion was among at least nine bomb threats involving European flights this week. Some aircraft were redirected, and an airport in Poland closed briefly; authorities in various countries said no explosive devices had been found.

Separately, a security operation took place Tuesday at the Greek island port of Syros after a threat against the Israel-bound cruise ship Crown Iris. An unknown person said an explosive device had been attached to the Panama-flagged vessel’s hull before its planned departure for Haifa.
