Beach weather in November? In Canada? These photos prove it | CBC News

Warm days across the region

The unusual warmth has reached parts of Ontario and Quebec this week. Toronto recorded a high of about 21 C on Wednesday, and people made use of the sunshine, including at High Park and on Parliament Hill.

In Montreal, a woman was photographed enjoying the warm conditions at Verdun Beach on Wednesday. Toronto residents also took advantage of the temperatures, including a man walking his dogs in shorts and a cyclist out in the city.

Weather systems bring warmer air

The Weather Network links the conditions to a strong high-pressure ridge off the U.S. East Coast and a warm front connected to a Colorado low. Together, these systems are bringing warmer air into parts of Canada. The Colorado low is described as a low-pressure area caused by the Rocky Mountains that generally moves northeastward.

El Niño may play a role

Bill Merryfield, a research scientist at Environment and Climate Change Canada, said El Niño typically affects Canada toward the end of the year. He said it can lead to unusually mild temperatures in fall and winter.
