Marvel’s Oldest Hero Namor Officially Gets Major Redesign and Powerful New Powers
A new look for Namor
Marvel’s Black Panther/Namor: Doomed #2 gives Namor golden armor, a winged coronet and a powerful new trident. The issue is written by Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan, with art by Stefano Nesi.
The Scarlet Witch provides the upgrade with a spell that protects Namor and Black Panther from dark magic while improving their physical abilities. Namor was already described as one of Marvel’s most physically powerful characters.
A mission into Hell
Namor and Black Panther investigate demonic attacks affecting Atlantis and Wakanda. Their search takes them into Hell, where Doctor Doom has recently taken power from Mephisto. Doom denies responsibility for the attacks and identifies a new enemy, the Kingkiller, as the culprit. The heroes’ investigation therefore continues with a threat beyond Doom himself.

A long Marvel history
Namor first appeared in 1939’s Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1, making him older than many familiar Marvel characters. He and the original Human Torch later appeared in Marvel Comics #1.
Across his history, Namor has been both hero and antagonist. He has clashed with the Avengers and Fantastic Four while defending Atlantis.
From comics to film
Namor has gained wider recognition through Tenoch Huerta Mejía’s portrayal in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In that film, the character rules Talokan rather than Atlantis.
