Dancing With the Stars sends former frontrunner packing after Disney Night performances

Stiles and Sosa exit

Stiles and Sosa were eliminated after performing a paso doble to “Satisfied” from “Hamilton.” Stiles had been dealing with rib pain from an earlier injury during rehearsals, and the pair received 33 out of 40 from the judges. After the result, Stiles said, “It’s been an incredible experience. I pulled things out of myself that I didn’t realize were there.” Sosa described the partnership as an “absolute honor.” Their elimination came a week after a double elimination.

Two couples score perfectly

Shum Jr. and Johnson performed jazz to “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” from “Mary Poppins” and earned a perfect score. Dewan and Chmerkovskiy also received 40 out of 40 for a quickstep to “Be Our Guest” from “Beauty and the Beast.”

The couples tied for the night’s highest score, but Shum Jr. and Johnson secured immunity for next week’s dance-off. Their season-long cumulative total was one point higher than Dewan and Chmerkovskiy’s.

Disney-inspired routines fill ballroom

The eight remaining couples performed dances inspired by Disney on Broadway. Cynthia Erivo, a Tony winner and “Wicked” actress, joined judges Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli as a guest judge.

Team dances also returned, dividing the cast into two groups that performed with co-hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough. Other routines included Amber Glenn and Pasha Pashkov’s quickstep to “A Star Is Born” from “Hercules,” and Maura Higgins and Mark Ballas’s jive to “You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly” from “Peter Pan.” Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik scored 33 out of 40 for their contemporary dance to “Easy As Life” from “Aida.” Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach earned 37 out of 40 for a samba to “Under the Sea” from “The Little Mermaid.”
