With 641 hp, Genesis GV60 Magma’s agile handling is gonna blow drivers away—but lookout for its 220-mile range

Power and handling
The rear-wheel-drive GV60 Standard uses a 225-horsepower motor, while the all-wheel-drive version has two motors producing 314 horsepower combined. The Magma’s dual-motor setup delivers 641 horsepower. Drivers can choose Launch Control, Boost, Sprint, GT and MY modes. MY allows adjustments to the electronically controlled limited-slip differential, stability control and other performance settings. Genesis also provides a drift mode, but does not describe it as a regular street-driving mode.
In testing, the Magma was nimble through corners and more polished than the Ioniq 5 N. The Ioniq 5 N also has 641 horsepower in Boost mode and reached 60 mph in 3.0 seconds in testing. The GV60 can tow up to 2,000 pounds.
Range and charging
The GV60’s lithium-ion battery has 84 kW of usable capacity. The rear-wheel-drive model has the lineup’s longest stated range, at 306 miles per charge; the Magma is rated for 220 miles.
In a 75-mph highway test, the Magma traveled 200 miles. Its EPA fuel-economy estimates are 84 MPGe in the city, 72 on the highway and 78 combined. The rear-wheel-drive model is rated at up to 119 city, 101 highway and 110 combined MPGe; all-wheel-drive versions reach up to 107, 93 and 100, respectively.
Genesis says DC fast charging can take the battery from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes. A test vehicle charged from 13 to 80 percent in the same amount of time. A level 2 AC charger is said to take about seven hours to charge from 10 to 100 percent.
Cabin and cargo
The GV60 has a more modern interior approach than the larger GV70 and GV80, though it is less spacious than some rivals. Its center-console gear selector resembles a crystal ball and flips upside down when the vehicle is in park.
The Magma’s seats, doors and center console use synthetic suede with orange and grey stitching. Its steering wheel has orange accents on the control buttons. A 27.0-inch display combines the digital gauge cluster and infotainment screen; wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation and a head-up display are standard.
Behind the rear seat, the Magma has 24.0 cubic feet of cargo space, expanding to 54.7 cubic feet with the seats folded. The front trunk holds 0.71 cubic feet. In testing, the standard GV60 fit seven carry-on bags with all seats in place.
Equipment and buying context
Standard technology includes Bluetooth, a wireless smartphone charging pad and an eight-speaker stereo. A 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen system is optional. The 2027 GV60 can be compared with other vehicles in its segment. For buyers open to a lightly used vehicle, a one-to-three-year-old model may cost less than a new one and is likely to have a warranty.
