Trump voters: poll finds 1 in 10 plan switching to Democrats this midterm

Voter plans shift

The poll suggests a larger share of Trump’s 2024 voters may cross party lines than Harris’s former supporters. About 9 percent of Trump voters said they plan to vote Democratic, compared with just over 2 percent of Harris voters planning to vote Republican.

The article describes the Trump-voter figure as roughly one in 10, reflecting the poll’s estimate. The survey concerns the November 3 midterm election.

Support among groups falls

The poll found that MAGA identification declined among Hispanic voters who had supported Trump. At the end of last year, 56 percent of Hispanic Trump voters identified as MAGA Republicans; by October, the share was 37 percent.

Among Trump voters aged 20 to 29, the proportion certain they would vote on November 3 fell from 50 percent at the end of last year to 38 percent in October. The poll linked changing views among young and Latino voters in part to the Iran war, living costs and deportation tactics.

Responses and concerns

Trump has dismissed unfavorable polling as “fake news,” but said historical patterns made midterms difficult for a sitting president. He also urged young people to vote in a message recorded outside the Oval Office.

Republican National Committee spokesperson Natalie Baldassarre said the administration had fulfilled its promises. The poll also reported concern among Republicans in the South about losing Hispanic voters, although two-thirds of Hispanic Trump voters still said they intended to vote Republican.
