Foggy weather in parts of the UK could create hazardous driving conditions into next week

Fog risk on Sunday

Dense fog is forecast across parts of the UK on Sunday, with the Midlands, east Wales and eastern England most at risk of patches. Mist or fog may also form in other areas.

Brighter conditions in the north

Scotland and Northern Ireland are expected to see brighter weather more widely on Sunday. Aside from an occasional shower, many places should have spells of autumn sunshine.

Fog shifts north next week

High pressure is expected to remain the main weather system from Monday, while the risk of fog moves north. As the high drifts into the North Sea, winds across southern parts of the UK are forecast to change direction and strengthen.

The Scottish glens, Central Belt, Cheshire Plains, Vale of York and parts of Northern Ireland are most prone to dense fog during morning commutes this week. Fog and mist patches elsewhere cannot be ruled out, and some may take time to clear, causing travel disruption.

Temperatures and overnight lows

Daytime temperatures are expected to stay close to average for early November. However, persistent fog and low cloud could make some locations feel noticeably cooler. Overnight temperatures are forecast to fall to 2 or 3C in the north and around 5 to 8C farther south.

Key points

  • A Met Office yellow warning covered parts of England and Wales early Saturday.
  • The fog risk is forecast to shift north from Monday, with possible morning travel disruption.
  • Daytime temperatures should be near average, while overnight lows could reach 2 or 3C in the north.
