Jessica Chastain’s 2014 Thriller Is Officially a Perfect Watch Before It Leaves Streaming for Good

Other Mommy’s Mixed Reception

Rob Savage’s Other Mommy stars Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain in a dual role. It adapts Josh Malerman’s 2024 novel Incidents Around the House and was a major horror release during the 2026 Halloween season.

The film had a 19% average on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing, despite its box office success. Collider reviewer Gabrielle Moss called it a hollow copy, while ScreenRant’s Josh Bate said its opening sequence was the only slightly creepy part.

A Free Plex Arrival

A Most Violent Year becomes available to watch for free on Plex starting November 1. The 2014 thriller stars Chastain alongside Oscar Isaac, who co-leads the film. David Oyelowo and Albert Brooks also appear. The story centers on a fuel supplier trying to hold to his moral compass as violence, corruption and decay threaten his family and business.

Chastain’s Award-Winning Role

A Most Violent Year received a positive critical response and brought Chastain several Best Supporting Actress wins. Her awards came from the National Board of Review, the Utah Film Critics Association and the Indiana Film Journalists Association.

The film offers viewers a different Chastain performance from her divisive turn in Other Mommy. Its free Plex availability gives audiences a chance to revisit the 2014 thriller starting November 1.
