Her homeless Halloween costume drew backlash; Martha Stewart responds, saying homelessness is something she cares deeply about

Costume draws online criticism

Stewart shared a photo of herself in tattered clothing, holding a clipboard with a message asking for help. Makeup made her face appear dirty, and she posed with a tired expression.

Stewart explains her response

Stewart said she was distressed to learn that her outfit had caused offense. She said homelessness remains one of America’s greatest challenges and an ongoing crisis. She also said she cares deeply about the issue and has devoted significant time and effort to supporting charities that combat homelessness.

Another costume faces backlash

Stewart was not the only public figure criticized over a Halloween costume. In a since-deleted Instagram post, DaPron wore a pink outfit modeled on the clothes Jackie Kennedy wore when her husband, President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated.

DaPron posed with a bouquet of red roses beside her husband, Kirk DaPron, who dressed as John F. Kennedy. Two of their children wore costumes as Caroline Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Jr., while two others dressed as Secret Service agents.
