Ritchie’s $500M Detective Blockbuster Officially Dominates Apple TV’s Global Charts

A film returns to the charts

At the time of writing, Sherlock Holmes was among the ten most-watched films on Apple TV worldwide. Guy Ritchie directed the 2009 reimagining of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective.

Robert Downey Jr. plays Holmes, alongside Jude Law as Dr. John Watson. The film’s current ranking shows Ritchie’s streaming success is not limited to recent television releases.

A major box-office hit

Sherlock Holmes grossed $524 million worldwide against a reported budget of $90 million. It became one of the biggest-earning films of 2009. The movie’s performance led to a sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, which the report says proved just as popular.

Ritchie’s recent streaming run

Ritchie has had two returning shows associated with him this fall: The Gentlemen and MobLand. The second season of The Gentlemen brought back Eddie Horniman and Susie Glass as they took charge of Bobby’s criminal empire.

The show’s viewership fell significantly compared with its first season, but it was popular enough to earn a third installment, now in production. MobLand’s second season, meanwhile, was seven episodes into a ten-episode run at the time of the report.
