A second Halloween surprise: HBO drops an IT: Welcome to Derry episode | TVLine

A Halloween release

HBO Max made a new episode of IT: Welcome to Derry available on Halloween. The installment is called “A Story of Derry.” This is the show’s second annual spooky-season surprise. Last year, Episode 2 of its first season arrived on Halloween, two days before its scheduled broadcast date.

The series and its setting

The show appeared on a list of the best TV shows of 2025. In August, more than eight months after Season 1 ended, it received a second-season renewal.

Plans for season two

The upcoming season will adapt the 1935-set “Derry Interlude” from Stephen King’s novel. Its official description places the story during the Great Depression and centers on the Bradley Gang, bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammunition and encounter horror.

Andy Muschietti previously told TVLine that the project was conceived as three seasons, each tied to a catastrophic event described in the book’s interludes. He cited the 1935 massacre, the 1908 Easter egg hunt explosion, and the 1962 Black Spot fire, which Season 1 portrayed.
