Deadspin: Nikola Jokic and Nuggets Open NBA Cup Against Struggling Suns

Jokic reaches a milestone

Jokic recorded 21 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in Denver’s 104-91 win over New Orleans on Wednesday. The victory was the Nuggets’ second against the Pelicans in five days and came as Jokic reached his 200th career regular-season triple-double.

Only Russell Westbrook, who has 209, has more career triple-doubles in NBA history. Denver coach David Adelman called Jokic’s achievement exceptional and praised Westbrook as well.

Booker seeks consistency

Booker’s recent performances have swung sharply. He scored 43 points in Phoenix’s 131-122 win over Golden State on Saturday, setting a franchise record for points in a home opener, then managed three points in Monday’s 125-114 loss at Oklahoma City.

Against the Thunder, Booker made one of seven shots and had seven assists in 34 minutes. He said the defense made it difficult to get the ball and that he needed to find better ways to attack.

Denver brings scoring options

Jokic is averaging 22.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 9.0 assists. Jamal Murray averages 22.5 points and 5.8 assists, while DeMar DeRozan has added 13.0 points per game off the bench.

Second-round pick Trevon Brazile scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds in his first start of the season Wednesday. Forward Cam Johnson, who has missed three games with an ankle injury, is questionable for Friday.
