ABC’s Hit Crime Series Adaptation Officially Starts a New Era on Streaming

A first Crave chart appearance

As of October 30, R.J. Decker appeared on Crave’s Canadian Top 10 for the first time. One chart placed it at No. 5 among titles from Amazon Channels, below Occupation Double, Crystal Lake, The Voice and YAGA.

The same ranking put the show ahead of The Amazing Race, Tracker, The Traitors Canada, War and Lanterns. A separate account in the reporting lists R.J. Decker at No. 9 on a Top 10 overall chart, above Tracker and below The Traitors Canada, The Voice, YAGA, Crystal Lake, MasterChef Canada, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, The Traitors and The Celebrity Traitors.

A South Florida investigator

The series draws inspiration from Carl Hiaasen’s 1987 novel Double Whammy. Scott Speedman plays R.J. Decker, a disgraced newspaper photographer and former convict who begins again as a private investigator in South Florida.

He takes on unusual cases with help from his journalist ex, her police officer wife and a mysterious woman from his past. ABC has also adapted other books and international shows into crime series, including High Potential, Will Trent, Secrets and Lies, Mistresses and The Streets of San Francisco.

Finale leaves Mel in danger

The season 2 finale aired October 27 and ended on a cliffhanger. Mel, played by Bevin Bru, discovers that Jessica, the wife of her late police partner Bobby Werner, is a serial scammer and his killer. Jessica warns Mel, “I wonder who you’ll be without your family,” and is shown outside Mel’s home, watching her wife, Catherine, played by Adelaide Clemens, and daughter, Sofia, played by Melodie Rose Romano.
