Deadspin: Skidding Pitt strives to apply the brakes against Georgia Tech

Pitt seeks a reset
Pittsburgh is 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the ACC. Its three-game slide, along with Heintschel’s season-ending torn ACL, has weakened its chances of reaching the conference championship game.
After a 52-23 defeat at No. 1 Miami, coach Pat Narduzzi said the team is taking the season one game at a time. He named Georgia Tech as its focus, while acknowledging the championship game may be out of reach.
Quarterbacks adjust after injury
Narduzzi described the quarterbacks’ performance as progress, while noting missed opportunities downfield. He said the improvement still had not been enough to win.
Georgia Tech faces its own slump
Georgia Tech is 2-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play. After starting last season 8-0, the Yellow Jackets have lost nine of their past 12 games and now have a difficult route to bowl eligibility.
The team gave up 399 rushing yards in a 49-27 home loss to Boston College last week. Quarterback Alberto Mendoza was intercepted twice and taken out in the fourth quarter; this season, he has completed 71.2% of his passes for 1,714 yards and 10 touchdowns.
