Milwaukee Brewers Claim First World Series Title After 57 Seasons: 2026 MLB Playoff Bracket, Schedule and Scores

Milwaukee seals the title

Closer Trevor Megill recorded the final out with a soft ground ball, and the Brewers celebrated on the field at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. Their 4-1 victory over Tampa Bay on Wednesday clinched the series.

The Rays scored once in the ninth inning, when Chandler Simpson doubled with two outs to bring home Liam Hicks. Aaron Ashby was ready to relieve Megill if needed, but the grounder ended the game.

A series of big moments

The Brewers won the first two World Series games by one run. In Game 2, they came back after falling behind 4-0 in the first inning. Milwaukee won Game 3 by a 10-1 score after a fifth-inning stolen base by Christian Yelich. A challenge confirmed Yelich was safe at second, and the Brewers scored eight runs with two outs without hitting a home run.

Postseason momentum built early

In the divisional round against San Diego, 20-year-old outfielder Jackson Chourio hit a late two-run homer to save Milwaukee in its postseason opener. He followed with a walk-off single in the next game.

Tampa Bay had won the most games in the American League and, like Milwaukee, was a light-spending franchise seeking its first World Series victory. The Rays’ season ended in Game 5 as the Brewers claimed the championship.

Key points

  • Milwaukee beat Tampa Bay 4-1 in Game 5 to win its first World Series title.
  • The Brewers’ championship ended a 57-season wait.
  • Jacob Misiorowski pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings in the clinching game.
  • Jackson Chourio delivered a late homer and a walk-off single against San Diego.
