Browns reportedly made Shedeur Sanders trade decision after activating Dillon Gabriel

Gabriel returns to roster

The Browns officially activated Gabriel from injured reserve on Monday. To make room, Cleveland waived seventh-round tight end Carsen Ryan, who could return to the practice squad if he clears waivers, Cabot reported.

Cabot said the team preferred to keep all four quarterbacks on its roster. If Cleveland had needed to move one, it might have tried to send Green through waivers and onto the practice squad, though that carried risk.

No planned quarterback trades

Cabot reported that the Browns intend to keep Sanders and Gabriel through the Nov. 10 trade deadline. She said Cleveland has no plans to trade either player unless it receives an offer it cannot refuse, and is not shopping its quarterbacks.

Sanders drew attention earlier in October after hiring an agent. That led to speculation he might seek a trade, with Deshaun Watson firmly atop the depth chart and expected to start this season when healthy.

Watson’s history matters

Watson had not played since suffering an Achilles injury in October 2024, the first of two such injuries. This season, he has been responsible for five fourth-quarter game-winning drives.

The Browns are atop the AFC North standings by tiebreaker. The report suggests Watson’s injury history could make Cleveland reluctant to part with either Sanders or Gabriel.
