Apple’s Pro and Tell event: everything announced this week, from touchscreens to AI

A touchscreen MacBook Pro arrives

Apple CEO John Ternus introduced the company’s first touchscreen MacBook Pro. Its touch sensor is built into the display panel, Apple says, and supports gestures including scrolling, swiping, and pinching.

The laptop has a tandem OLED display, a 120Hz refresh rate, and brightness of up to 2,000 nits. The 14-inch model weighs three pounds, and the device adds an illuminated Apple logo and Dynamic Island features for updates, file searches, and Siri AI.

Prices and preorder dates

The touchscreen MacBook Pro starts at $2,899 for a 14-inch model with an M5 Pro chip. The 16-inch version starts at $3,399 with an M5 Pro, and configurations with an M5 Max are also available.

Preorders for the touchscreen model begin today, with availability starting November 6th. Separately, the 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip starts at $1,999 and is also available to preorder, with shipping beginning November 6th.

iPad Mini and Mac updates

The updated iPad Mini has an 8.5-inch OLED screen, slimmer bezels, and a thickness of 5.4mm. Apple also added an Acoustic Display, an A20 Pro chip, a 12-megapixel landscape camera, and an IP67 rating.

The iPad Mini starts at $699 for Wi-Fi and 128GB of storage, in midnight and starlight. A glare-reducing nano-texture display is available with 256GB and 512GB configurations.

M6 Macs and software tools

The 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro includes Apple’s N1 networking chip, with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support, plus three Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports. It also has MagSafe 3, HDMI, an SDXC slot, a Liquid Retina XDR display, and a 12MP Center Stage camera.

The M6 iMac adds the N1 chip while retaining its previous design and color options. Apple says its on-device AI performance is up to five times faster than the M4 iMac; the new model starts at $1,499 and availability begins November 6th.

Apple is also adding an AI chatbot to Keynote, Numbers, and Pages, built with models from Apple and OpenAI. The company says it can help animate slides, create or restructure drafts, and calculate or visualize data.
