Despite misdiagnosis, Christina Applegate shares health struggles, vows to keep fighting for the MS community and speak on its behalf forever

A continuing commitment to advocacy
On Tuesday’s MeSsY podcast, Christina Applegate said she intends to remain an advocate for people living with multiple sclerosis. She described her affection for the community and said she still feels part of it despite not having the disease.
Applegate told co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler, “I’m still your warrior,” and said she would speak on the community’s behalf forever. Sigler, an actor diagnosed with MS in 2001, co-hosts the podcast with Applegate.
Diagnosis and recent revelation
Applegate disclosed an MS diagnosis in 2021 and retired from acting in 2022 after the Netflix series Dead to Me ended. Since then, she has spoken publicly in support of people with MS.
Last week, she said she had recently learned that she was misdiagnosed. Applegate said she has not improved and is back at square one as her doctors investigate what has been happening since 2021.
Symptoms remain unexplained
In the latest podcast episode, Applegate described taking 10 minutes to move off her pillow, get out of bed and stand. She said she nearly could not walk to the bathroom and now keeps a walker beside her bed.
Applegate said these difficulties were new for her and that she did not know what was causing them. She also reported losing “too much” weight and spoke about changes in her appearance.
