Warhammer Fans May Find an Unexpected Successor Series Coming From DC’s Last Place

A grim future for Green Lantern
Green Lantern: Doomed Cosmos is scheduled to arrive in January 2027. The Elseworlds story imagines humanity spreading across space, while Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps oppose its expansion.
Dan Watters is writing the series, with art by Kyle Hotz. Dan Brown is handling colors and Steve Wands the lettering; variant covers are by Björn Barends, Steve Beach, and Ashley Wood.
A battered Corps faces humanity
The story presents the Green Lanterns as exhausted fighters facing daunting odds. They bring Hal, their only human recruit, into their cause as they battle humanity’s advance across the galaxy.
Hotz said he aimed to combine grand space-opera imagery with the story’s emotional moments. He described the Lanterns as worn-down underdogs, with damaged armor and weapons held together by tape and wire.
Warhammer echoes, not a crossover
The premise recalls Warhammer 40,000’s grim military scale, with humanity cast as a force of conquest and the Corps fighting as a last hope. The article compares the Lanterns’ role to Space Marines and, in their struggle to hold out, to the Imperial Guard.
The series does not place DC characters inside Warhammer lore. Instead, it uses familiar Green Lantern characters in a different setting, where Hal’s choice to join the Corps would make him a heretic siding with aliens in the Imperium’s universe.
Betrayal and uneasy alliances
The story also teases betrayal by Hal’s battle brother, Oliver Queen, recalling earlier Green Lantern and Green Arrow stories. Hal’s recruitment serves both the Corps’ strategy and his own development.
The comic will send Hal into large battles across the stars alongside non-human Corps members. He is expected to encounter familiar characters as opponents or in strained alliances.
