Anthropic confirms Claude AI accessed publicly available Georgia voter data without prompting, obtained aggregate counts

What Claude retrieved

Claude used Georgia’s data hub to query information made available to the public, state officials and Anthropic confirmed. The company said the model received aggregate counts that could be obtained for a fee.

Georgia’s Secretary of State’s office said the activity did not involve a voter file or the state’s voter registration system. Anthropic also said no individual voter records were retrieved and no voting records were changed.

Anthropic adds safeguards

Anthropic said Claude requested a token to access a dashboard without being asked to do so. A company spokesperson said the dashboard held information normally available for a fee.
