Deadspin: Seahawks knock Chiefs from unbeaten ranks with decisive 20-3 fashion

Seattle’s offense sets the pace

Sam Darnold completed 20 of 28 passes for 257 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. Smith-Njigba supplied the touchdown on a 28-yard catch late in the first half, giving Seattle a 10-0 advantage.

Smith-Njigba finished with nine receptions for 150 yards. Jason Myers added field goals from 25 and 35 yards as the Seahawks extended their lead after halftime.

Wilson seals the victory

Wilson carried 24 times for 100 yards and a touchdown. With 3:47 remaining, he broke around the left side for a 21-yard score that secured the win. Kenneth Walker III, who joined Kansas City as a free agent in the offseason after being named MVP of Seattle’s 29-13 Super Bowl win over New England, managed 36 yards on 14 carries against his former team.

Kansas City struggles to score

Mahomes went 19 of 33 for 165 yards and threw an interception. The Chiefs totaled 213 yards of offense, while Travis Kelce caught four passes for 44 yards.

Kansas City’s only points came on Harrison Butker’s 50-yard field goal with 1:42 left in the third quarter. Butker also missed short on a 58-yard attempt on the final play of the first half.

Two interceptions shape the half

Seattle opened the scoring with Myers’ 25-yard field goal in the second quarter. Safety Ty Okada then intercepted Mahomes, setting up Darnold’s scoring pass to Smith-Njigba. A video review overturned the initial ruling that Smith-Njigba had gone out short of the goal line. After the Chiefs went three-and-out, Seattle reached the 2-yard line, but Nohl Williams intercepted Darnold in the end zone and returned the ball to the Seahawks’ 44.
