Conspiracies, warfare and feudal zombies shape 7 netflix action shows where every episode is a masterpiece
Conspiracies and a long campaign
In The Night Agent, Gabriel Basso plays Peter Sutherland, an FBI agent assigned to monitor a phone in the White House basement. When it rings, he is pulled into an escalating government conspiracy.
Peter’s decency sets him apart from the antiheroes common to the genre, and each season tests him for trying to do what is right. Netflix renewed the series for a fourth and final season in 2026.
Uhtred faces shifting kingdoms
The Last Kingdom follows Uhtred of Bebbanburg, played by Alexander Dreymon, as he tries to reclaim his home. Saxon by birth and Viking by upbringing, he repeatedly clashes with kings who want to command him.
Based on Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon Stories and developed by Stephen Butchard, the series began on BBC Two before Netflix took over for its final three seasons. Its 46 episodes follow Uhtred through decades of warfare, and the feature-length Seven Kings Must Die provides a closing chapter.
A plague and a monster hunter
In Kingdom, writer Kim Eun-hee sets a resurrection plague amid a political struggle in the Joseon dynasty. Crown Prince Lee Chang, played by Ju Ji-hoon, investigates his father’s illness as a corrupt minister, played by Ryu Seung-ryong, seeks power.
The dead sprint and swarm, and they are active only at night, forcing characters to plan around sunset. Bae Doona plays physician Seo-bi, who works to understand the plague. The Witcher follows monster hunter Geralt, played by Henry Cavill, alongside sorceress Yennefer, played by Anya Chalotra, and princess Ciri, played by Freya Allan; their survival and troubles drive the fantasy story.
