10 Best Anime Where Nobody Gets Plot Armor: Ranked Stories With Real Consequences
Crime And Conspiracy
In Akudama Drive, a heavily militarized Japan still struggles with crime. Criminals receive contracts for nearly impossible heists, and the central group becomes entangled in a government conspiracy that draws them further into danger.
The characters’ abilities may help them through difficult moments, but they cannot protect them from overwhelming odds. As members of the cast are lost, survival remains uncertain, and those who make it through still face consequences.
War Has A Cost
Legend of the Galactic Heroes begins after a century-long ceasefire ends. Two interstellar powers return to war when their young commanders break the alliance, bringing opposing ideals into a clash over who is right.
The series treats war as a place where no one is assured survival. Characters can be killed by stray fire or assassination, and the consequences of events shape each person’s fate.
A Deadly Game
Gantz follows people who have recently died and are brought back to take part in a dangerous game. Given high-tech suits, they must hunt powerful aliens hiding on Earth.
The missions offer little hope of success or survival. Characters are frequently killed or severely injured, making the series’ action especially brutal.
Survival And Its Consequences
In Vinland Saga, Thorfinn joins the Vikings responsible for his father’s death, seeking revenge. When that goal disappears, he must work out what remains for him. The series shows that consequences do not have to mean death. Its surviving characters must confront and rethink their goals and lives, while Banana Fish brings its own grounded danger to a story set in America.
Banana Fish centers on Ash Lynx, a young gang leader, and Eiji, a rookie reporter who travels to the United States to write about gang life. A drug conspiracy pulls them into a flight from the government and rival gangs, with death presented as a near certainty in that criminal world.
