India CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka released from Tihar Jail

Release after custody request denied
A Special Executive Magistrate declined the police request to extend Das and Ranka’s judicial custody by three days. The two CJP leaders were released from Tihar Jail on Wednesday night.
Undertaking on Jantar Mantar
In written undertakings, the leaders pledged to maintain peace and refrain from calling for demonstrations at Jantar Mantar. The promise applies until the site is denotified in accordance with law.
Delhi Police had denotified the protest venue earlier in October. Das and Ranka were booked for trespassing after entering the site and raising the Indian flag.
Protests over voter rolls
The CJP demonstrations called for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to resign. Protesters cited alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and the deletion of voters’ names.
The report also says earlier CJP-led protests culminated in Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. It does not give further details about that resignation.
