Two men face charges after nyc student dies, allegedly being drugged and raped in dorm room

Allegations in the dorm room
Federal authorities said a college student died after being given fentanyl in her New York City dorm room. Prosecutors allege the drug was described to her as pure cocaine and that she was told it contained no fentanyl.
Freire is accused of sexually assaulting the woman while she was unconscious. Neither Freire nor Peralta Cabrera attended the Fashion Institute of Technology, according to the school. Prosecutors also allege Freire sent photographs of the women to others during the incident. When he later contacted campus security, they say, he initially claimed the women had consumed too much alcohol.
Prosecutors describe drug plan
According to federal prosecutors, Freire told Peralta Cabrera he wanted drugs for two college women that would last through the night. Prosecutors say he also discussed supplying drugs strong enough to make one woman addicted.
The allegations contrast with Freire’s earlier description of fentanyl as fake and poison, prosecutors said. His lawyer, Mitchell Schwartz, disputed the claim that Freire intended to deceive the women.
At an April hearing, Schwartz said Freire and the woman who died had been in a sexual relationship for more than a year. He also said she had repeatedly asked Freire to obtain drugs through social media and text messages, The New York Times reported.
Charges and case status
Rosales Pino is due to be sentenced in December. The article gives no sentencing date for Freire or Peralta Cabrera.
