Jane Dodds is standing down as Welsh Liberal Democrats leader after years in the role

Dodds announces her departure
Jane Dodds said she would stand down as leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats. In a statement on Tuesday, she described leading the party as the honour of her life and said it was the right time to pass on the role.
Dodds said she had reflected on the party’s needs after May’s election. She believes building a team through years of community work should be led by a new generation.
One Liberal Democrat in Cardiff Bay
The Liberal Democrats have been represented by one member in Cardiff Bay since 2016. Kirsty Williams initially held the seat, with Dodds succeeding her in 2021.
Policy deals and tributes
Last year, Dodds secured agreement from the previous Welsh Labour government to ban greyhound racing and introduce £1 bus fares for under-21s. The concessions were made in return for her helping the government pass its budget.
Welsh Liberal Democrat president Tim Sly praised Dodds for leading the party through turbulent years in Welsh and UK politics. He thanked her for her service on behalf of party members.
