Ahead of November summit, shabana mahmood to hold talks on eu enforcement cooperation and data access

A second meeting with Brunner
Mahmood’s Monday meeting with Magnus Brunner will be their second in two months. It comes as contact between London and Brussels has increased following Andy Burnham’s announcement that he plans to use an upcoming EU-UK summit to present options for Britain’s long-term relationship with the EU.
The talks are expected to cover the UK rejoining some police and security databases that became unavailable after Brexit. Eurodac, a newer system focused on migration, is also on the agenda.
Debate over lost access
Burnham said the UK had lost “control” and argued that the issue should receive more attention in discussions about Brexit. He said he would work towards a practical arrangement at the summit in November.
Migration policy in focus
Burnham has also been selected to give a lecture at King’s College London on migration and asylum. He is expected to discuss the EU’s new Pact on Migration and Asylum, a framework of 10 pieces of legislation covering border management, asylum applications and information-sharing among member states.
Burnham said the reforms were also benefiting the UK and cited a 43% fall in illegal crossings. He said the UK’s contribution was indispensable and called for the current approach to continue along relevant migration routes.
