From Childhood to Family Milestones, Photos Show How Prince Harry and Prince William’s Relationship Changed Through the Years
Their first pictures together
Harry was born on September 15, 1984, and was photographed with William for the first time the following month. The brothers appeared with extended family at Harry’s christening in December.
In their early years, they were often pictured together. A 1986 photograph showed them playing at Highgrove House, where they lived with Charles and Diana.
Family life before and after separation
Images from 1989 showed the family together before Charles and Diana separated. That year, the palace shared a picture of the brothers riding bicycles with their parents on the Isles of Scilly.
School and a family loss
The brothers supported each other at milestones, including William’s first day at Eton College in 1995. Harry joined him there in 1998; in his memoir, “Spare,” Harry said William asked him “to pretend [he] didn’t know him” at school.
In August 1997, weeks before Diana died, photographers captured the brothers exploring Balmoral Castle’s grounds with their father. The family was vacationing in Scotland when Diana died on August 31.
Together in public appearances
At Diana’s funeral, William, 15, and Harry, 12, walked behind her coffin as it moved from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey, alongside their father, uncle and grandfather. The brothers were photographed together in the years that followed, including in March 2001 and at the Queen Mother’s birthday celebration in August 2001.
