Clean a range hood filter
A greasy hood filter stops the fan pulling smoke and smells out, and the grease can catch fire. Metal filters wash clean in hot soapy water.
Tools you need
- Sink or tub
- Very hot water
- Dish soap and baking soda
- Soft brush

Steps
Turn the hood off. Push the tab or pull the ring on the filter and slide it out.
Fill the sink with very hot water, a good squirt of dish soap and a quarter cup of baking soda.
Soak the filter for 10 to 15 minutes.
Scrub gently with a soft brush, rinse with hot water and let it dry fully.
Slide it back in until it clicks. Charcoal filters (the dark, soft kind) cannot be washed; replace them instead.
