Clean a dishwasher filter
A dirty filter makes dishes come out gritty and can stop the dishwasher from draining. Most filters twist out by hand.
Tools you need
- Soft brush or old toothbrush
- Dish soap
- Towel
Steps
Pull out the bottom rack.
Find the round filter in the floor of the tub. Turn it a quarter turn to unlock it and lift it out, with the flat mesh under it if your model has one.
Rinse the filter under warm running water and scrub the mesh gently with a soft brush and a drop of dish soap.
Wipe out any food or glass in the hole under the filter.
Put the filter back and turn it until it locks. A loose filter lets food reach the pump.
Slide the rack back in and run a rinse.
