Trump urged UFC CEO Dana White to accept offered White House press secretary role after midterm losses

Trump’s offer to White

President Trump said he offered Dana White, the UFC’s chief executive, the open White House press secretary position. In a post, Trump urged White to take the job. Trump also said he had asked White to bring several assistants, naming Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harris. He said they were needed to defend against what he called the “Lunatic Left.”

Questions about the post

At least one media outlet reported that the post may have been tongue-in-cheek. CBS News said it had reached out to the White House and UFC for further comment. The remarks came days after Democrats swept the midterm elections, taking control of both the House and the Senate.

White’s ties to Trump

White has long supported Trump and attended his inauguration. He leads the Ultimate Fighting Championship, a global league valued at more than $15 billion. In July, the White House hosted an Ultimate Fighting Championship event on the South Lawn to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary. The event coincided with Trump’s 80th birthday.
