Saturday Packers Roster Moves: What They Mean for Sunday’s Patriots Game

Dabney joins the active group
Dabney’s elevation was the Packers’ only Saturday roster move. Tight end Josh Whyle remained in concussion protocol after being injured last week and did not practice this week.
Dabney, 24, joined Green Bay’s practice squad last year after Tucker Kraft tore his ACL. He appeared in two late-season games, starting the Week 18 matchup at Minnesota and catching one pass for 3 yards.
He also caught three passes for 15 yards during this year’s preseason, when Kraft and Luke Musgrave were injured. Green Bay instead added Jonnu Smith and traded for Mark Redman near the end of camp.
Running back choices wait
Green Bay has Josh Jacobs, MarShawn Lloyd, Pierre Strong and Kaleb Johnson at running back. Chris Brooks, who had missed four games with an ankle injury from the Tampa Bay game, was designated to return from injured reserve this week.
Brooks was limited at all three practices and listed as questionable, but his return to game action will wait another week. That also delays the decision on which running back, if any, to release.
Strong has taken important snaps and contributes on special teams. Johnson, a former third-round pick acquired for a 2028 sixth-round pick at the end of camp, has been a healthy scratch for the past two games. Lloyd appeared on the injury report Thursday with a knee issue, practiced Friday and was listed as questionable.
Mosby sits out Patriots game
The Packers had elevated edge Arron Mosby from the practice squad in each of the previous three weeks, the maximum number allowed. With a full 53-player roster, they had to sign him to the roster or leave him out.
Green Bay chose not to use Mosby against New England. Across three games, he played 43 special-teams snaps and recorded two tackles, leaving the Packers without a key special-teams contributor for a matchup against a Patriots unit described as among the league’s better groups.
Nixon status draws attention
The Packers did not elevate rookie cornerback Domani Jackson. Veteran starter Keisean Nixon was listed as questionable Friday with a groin injury after missing Thursday’s practice, but he was feeling good at Friday’s practice.
Nixon said, “I just want to play every week,” and described preparing his body to do so. He said he does not view the streak itself as something that matters to him.
