Game Of Thrones Star Who Played Jon Snow's Key Ally Has 1 Condition For Potential Spinoff Return

Bradley’s condition for returning

In an interview with Radio Times, John Bradley discussed the possibility of playing Samwell Tarly again in a Jon Snow sequel. He said his interest would depend on the script and how the story treated Sam.

Bradley explained that he no longer felt sure how to perform the character as he had been. Returning to the version of Sam seen at the end of Game of Thrones would not appeal to him, he said.

He would consider coming back if the story showed Sam changed and adapting to new circumstances. Bradley said the role would need to add something unexpected to the character’s history.

Where Sam’s story ended

By the series finale, Sam was serving as Grand Maester to King Bran Stark in King’s Landing. He and Gilly were also expecting their second child, details that could shape Sam’s life in a sequel.

A sequel still in development

Kit Harington confirmed earlier this year that the Jon Snow spinoff was not officially dead, despite earlier reports that it had been cancelled. The project has been tentatively in development since at least 2022, when House of the Dragon premiered.

At the end of Game of Thrones, Jon returned to the Night’s Watch and travelled beyond the Wall with Tormund Giantsbane. A sequel could take place years later, with Jon in a leadership role among the Free Folk and the Night’s Watch if a new threat appeared.

Sam would need to be in a different situation from the one he occupied in King’s Landing. The story’s challenge would be finding a natural way to bring him into Jon’s life again.

Other Westeros projects ahead

House of the Dragon is expected to conclude with its fourth and final season, which will probably arrive in the summer of 2028. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set to return for season 2 in 2027.

An Aegon’s Conquest movie has also been confirmed and is slated for 2029. Meanwhile, possible sequels centered on characters from Game of Thrones remain uncertain, with the series’ controversial ending adding to the challenge of continuing their stories.
