Ukraine: Trump claims ‘beautiful’ deal in works as UK bars Putin from G20
Trump signals possible agreement
A US delegation is scheduled to mediate talks between Russian and Ukrainian representatives in Abu Dhabi on 10 and 11 November. Trump also confirmed speaking with Russian president Vladimir Putin’s envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, at the White House on Thursday, but did not meet visiting Ukrainian officials.
Meloni urges European coordination
Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni warned that Europe risked becoming irrelevant in Ukraine peace negotiations without a unified diplomatic approach. In a letter to EU Council president Antonio Costa, she said competing negotiating formats weakened Europe’s credibility and made its efforts appear disorganized.
Meloni said she was not seeking a negotiating seat for herself or Italy, but Rome would not accept commitments made without an EU mandate. Costa replied that Europe needed to act with coherence, unity and determination.
Other reported developments
Russian newswires quoted Russia’s defence ministry as saying Russian Aerospace Forces bombarded a power station near Sumy and a military brigade in the Zaporizhzhia region with a FAB-3000 aerial bomb. Iranian state media reported that Vladimir Putin met Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei at the Kremlin. Rezaei delivered a message from Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, and said they discussed regional issues and security arrangements after the war between Iran and the US.
