Minkah Fitzpatrick clarifies his 'Jets being Jets' viral comments

A costly home defeat

The Jets’ 38-33 loss to the Raiders left New York with a 2-6 record. It was the team’s third consecutive defeat and its sixth loss in seven games.

New York had a 30-21 lead in the third quarter before the Raiders rallied. Head coach Aaron Glenn’s record with the Jets is now 5-20, while the defense has struggled under his leadership.

Fitzpatrick explains his remark

After the game, veteran safety Minkah Fitzpatrick described the defensive miscues as “Jets being Jets.” The comment quickly drew attention. At a Thursday media session, Fitzpatrick said it had not created tension among teammates. He said the locker room understood his meaning in the context of discussions throughout the season about the Jets beating themselves or avoiding that.

Fitzpatrick, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, is in his first season with New York. He joined the Jets after being traded by Miami in March and signed a three-year, $40 million contract.

A demanding stretch ahead

The Jets face a road game against the Kansas City Chiefs, followed by a home matchup with the Buffalo Bills. Fitzpatrick said the opponent’s reputation was not the central issue.

  • The Jets lost 38-33 to the Raiders and dropped to 2-6.
