Kobo Stack will soon let subscribers upload and sync ebooks across devices for a monthly price

How Kobo Stack works

Subscribers can upload EPUBs and PDFs up to 200MB through Kobo’s website or by emailing files to a custom address. The documents, reading progress, highlights and annotations will be available wherever users are logged in to their Kobo account.

Access includes Kobo’s iOS and Android apps, its website and supported e-readers. Current e-reader support includes the Clara BW, Clara Colour, Libra Colour and Elipsa 2E; Kobo says older devices made between 2018 and 2024 will be supported soon.

Availability and subscription terms

Kobo CEO Michael Tamblyn shared the initial rollout countries on Threads. The United States is not included in the launch. The subscription costs $3.99 per month in Canada and £2.99 per month in the UK. Kobo is offering a 90-day free trial, and subscribers who cancel have 60 days to download their files and export notes and annotations before everything is permanently deleted.

Other software update features

Stack is part of Kobo’s major 6.0 e-reader software update, which is available as an optional beta ahead of a wider release. The update also lets users add multiple library cards to borrow books from several libraries through Libby.
