Fox completes $22B Roku acquisition, a major shift in U.S. streaming, reports TechCrunch

Fox takes ownership of Roku
The acquisition was announced Friday, formally placing Roku under Fox. Founded in 2002, Roku has become a major force in streaming and connected television. Fox said the combined company ranks third among U.S. television businesses by viewership. Roku founder Anthony Wood said the company’s mission remains unchanged, while its reach and resources will grow under Fox.

A larger connected TV audience
Fox gains direct access to Roku’s audience of more than 100 million households. The company expects that scale to support more precise advertising and a stronger position in the expanding connected TV market. Fox also expects the acquisition to lessen its dependence on traditional television distribution.

Review and early closing
When the companies announced the deal in June, they expected completion in the first half of 2027. The acquisition finished substantially earlier than that projection.
