Hoffman’s rising screen career

Hoffman gained broad notice for his breakout role in Licorice Pizza, which brought him a Golden Globe nomination. He has since added films including the dark comedy Wildcat and the Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk.

His forthcoming work continues across different genres, from a drama about artificial intelligence to a sports story and a crime comedy-drama. The projects offer him roles rooted in both real events and fictional adventures.

Artificial revisits OpenAI turmoil

Directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by Simon Rich, Artificial charts OpenAI’s development over two decades and examines power struggles within the company. Its story includes the November 2023 boardroom crisis that resulted in CEO Sam Altman’s removal.

Hoffman portrays co-founder and president Greg Brockman. Andrew Garfield plays Altman, with Yura Borisov as Ilya Sutskever, Monica Barbaro as Mira Murati and Mark Rylance as Geoffrey Hinton; Ike Barinholtz, Jason Schwartzman and Chris O'Dowd are also in the ensemble.

A hockey story based on events

The Trashers draws on the story of the Danbury Trashers, a minor-league hockey team known for aggressive play and controversy. The movie follows the team’s rise and the family circumstances behind it.

Hoffman plays A.J. Galante, who became the team’s general manager at 17 after his father, Jimmy Galante, bought the franchise. David Harbour portrays Jimmy, and Olivia DeJonge is also part of the cast. Cooper Raiff directs the film, which combines sports and family drama with events from the team’s history.

A road trip turns chaotic

The assignment develops into a disorderly road trip, as the travelers encounter unexpected trouble. Hoffman appears with Alfred Molina, Paul Dano, David Jonsson, Danielle Deadwyler and Tim Meadows, among others. Plan B Entertainment is producing the film.
