2028 Subaru Getaway Wants Outta Here: 420 Horsepower and Three Rows

Power and charging options

Every Getaway uses two electric motors and all-wheel drive, producing a combined 420 horsepower. Subaru does not offer a single-motor, front-wheel-drive version, unlike the Toyota Highlander EV. The standard battery is a 77-kWh pack; range estimates for it have not been announced. Subaru says the optional 96-kWh battery should provide more than 300 miles of driving between charges.

A NACS port comes standard, enabling use of Tesla Superchargers. Subaru estimates a 10-to-80-percent charge will take 30 minutes on a 150-kW connection.

Performance and towing comparisons

Subaru's claimed time to 60 mph is described as comparable to other tested three-row electric SUVs. The all-wheel-drive Kia EV9 reached 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, while the all-wheel-drive Hyundai Ioniq 9 did so in 4.4 seconds.

The Getaway's maximum towing capacity is lower than the Kia EV9's 5,000-pound maximum. Test-track results and driving impressions are still pending.

Cabin space and equipment

The interior is described as comfortable and relatively stylish. Standard equipment includes heated, power-adjustable front seats, three-zone automatic climate control and customizable ambient lighting. Premium and Limited trims have artificial-leather upholstery; Touring models use nappa leather.

Each Getaway has a two-seat third row. Space is tight for adults, though the row can accommodate them on short trips; its room is comparable to the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9. The seats fold flat into the floor and operate electrically using cargo-area buttons.

A 14.0-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a 12.3-inch gauge display are standard. Audio ranges from a standard six-speaker system to an optional 13-speaker Harman/Kardon setup.

Safety, warranty and buying

Standard safety features include automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. Crash-test information is available through NHTSA and IIHS websites. Subaru's warranty coverage is described as average, and the company does not provide complimentary scheduled maintenance. Buyers considering a lightly used vehicle may find that a one-to-three-year-old model still has warranty coverage and costs less than a new one.
