Trump says every intention is to keep Hegseth as impeachment push returns

Trump backs Hegseth’s position

Trump said he intends to leave Hegseth in the defense secretary role. He acknowledged receiving calls from people critical of Hegseth, but said he did not understand their objections.

Speculation has linked Hegseth to the Tennessee Senate seat expected to be vacated by Republican Marsha Blackburn. Trump predicted Hegseth would be popular in the state.

Massie plans renewed effort

Republican Rep. Thomas Massie told ABC News on Wednesday that he plans to bring back his impeachment resolution on Monday or Tuesday. He said he believes enough Republicans could break ranks to approve it.

Massie read the 34-page measure, containing eight impeachment articles, on the House floor for more than 67 minutes in September. The effort stalled after Speaker Mike Johnson canceled the remaining votes before the midterm recess.

Trump criticizes Massie

Asked about the renewed effort Thursday morning, Trump called Massie a “very bad guy.” Massie lost his primary earlier this year after Trump backed an opponent. The resolution says Hegseth warrants impeachment and a Senate trial, removal from office and disqualification from future federal office.
