With an OLED redesign possibly ahead, the M6 MacBook Pro is probably the last of its kind

A familiar laptop gets new chips
The M6 MacBook Pro arrives on November 6th in the same chassis Apple has used since 2021. It is an update to the entry-level model, rather than the thinner, lighter MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen released on the same date.
Its processor moves from a 10-core M5 to a 12-core M6, and Apple adds its N1 networking chip. The rest of the hardware is largely unchanged from the previous two years, continuing a design that became more capable with the M4 and M5 updates.
Strong screen and everyday features
The 14.2-inch miniLED display offers 3092 x 1964 resolution, up to 1,000 nits of brightness in standard mode, and an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. The review describes it as bright, attractive and color-accurate.
The laptop also retains a large haptic trackpad, a solid keyboard, excellent speakers and a three-microphone array. Its processor, screen, speakers, ports, power and battery life are all described as a step above the MacBook Air.
Price complicates the choice
The starting price is $1,999 for 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. That matches the base M5 MacBook Pro’s price since September, but is $200 higher than the M5’s launch price a year earlier.
The new OLED MacBook Pro costs $900 more, making it a substantial jump for buyers considering the entry-level model. Still, the article says the OLED design is likely to reach the entry-level MacBook Pro next year, leaving shoppers to weigh buying now against waiting.
