Iowa Gov.-elect Sand comments as Vogue post revives his modeling past

Modeling draws online attention
After Sand won Tuesday’s election, a social media user reposted a video expressing surprise that he had once modeled, Vogue reported. A Google search confirmed the background, according to the magazine.
Comments on the post praised the combination of fashion work and politics. One commenter called it “the biggest flex EVER for a politician,” and referenced Italian Vogue.

Runway work in college
Sand began modeling while attending Brown University. Vogue described the work as a successful side hustle that brought him to Milan. He walked for Prada, Japanese label Number (N)ine and Giuliano Fujiwara. Vogue also reported that he appeared in editorial spreads, including AnOther Magazine’s fall 2002 feature titled “Adolescents.”
A missed Iowa caucus
Sand previously told Newsweek he missed the chance to caucus in 2004 in Decorah, Iowa, because he was in Milan. Before winning the governorship, Sand was elected Iowa’s state auditor. He defeated Republican Zach Lahn in Tuesday’s race.
