Black Doves Season 2 Review: Bigger, Better and More Personal in Every Way

Helen Faces New Scrutiny
With Christmas approaching, Helen Webb remains a member of the Black Doves, an organization that sells secrets to the highest bidder. Her cover becomes harder to maintain after her husband, Wallace, is elected Prime Minister and the family moves to 10 Downing Street.
Helen sets out to uncover the truth when her handler, Reed, is kidnapped. Her investigation brings her into conflict with Mr. Conteh, a senior Black Doves official, and reveals links to Reed’s past that could endanger Helen and the organization.
Sam’s Dangerous Arrangement
Sam Young is avoiding work and spending long stretches in hotels and bars when an arrest puts him in the sights of Patrick, a mysterious figure. Patrick offers to get Sam out of jail in return for carrying out a set of killings.
Sam initially agrees, then calls on his manager, Lenny, and assassins Williams and Eleanor for help. His path eventually crosses Helen’s, leaving the longtime allies to weigh their professional obligations against their personal bond.
New Faces Expand The Story
The season adds cast members and larger action sequences while retaining the show’s established approach. Babou Ceesay plays Conteh, who seeks to become Helen’s new handler and asserts himself in scenes with the returning cast.
Ambika Mod brings comic energy as Laila, a disgraced Black Doves member caught up in the plot surrounding Reed. Laila becomes Helen’s unexpected partner in the ensuing turmoil.
A Wider, More Personal Threat
The six episodes reviewed build on the first season’s unresolved possibilities, connecting the organization’s internal tensions to the characters’ personal histories. Helen’s investigation and Sam’s assignment converge as both confront the results of earlier decisions.
Sam Riley’s Patrick adds another source of danger, with the review describing the character as potentially important if the series continues. The season’s expanding stakes place Helen’s future and the Black Doves’ survival at risk.
