In US midterms, democrats gain control of House and Senate from republicans

Democrats take both chambers

Associated Press projections showed Democrats winning control of the House, while the party also flipped the Senate. Republicans entered the vote with 218 House seats to Democrats’ 214; AP had called Democratic wins in 220 seats, with counts still being finalized.

The results mark a change in control of Congress and give Democrats a stronger position to oppose President Donald Trump’s agenda. The report also said Democrats won gubernatorial contests in Ohio and Georgia.

Jeffries celebrates House victory

At the Democrats’ watch party, Jeffries described the moment as patriotic rather than partisan. He said he would prioritize affordable healthcare, seek to reverse Republican cuts to government health insurance, and address corruption among public officials.

Texas Senate race turns

An alleged statement claiming Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton rejected Talarico’s win as unfair circulated online, but the screenshot was not authentic and Paxton did not make the quoted claim. Paxton instead congratulated Talarico and said he would pray for him to do good for Texas and the nation.

Collins concedes defeat

Susan Collins, described as the longest-serving female Republican senator in US history, conceded defeat to Democratic challenger Troy Jackson, local media reported. The account says Democrats secured control of both chambers, while the House seat count was still being finalized.
